Xiamen, Zhangzhou & Quanzhou to realize urban integration by 2020

The “South Fujian Golden Triangle”, consisting of Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou, is expected to realize urban integration by 2020, according to the General Plan for Urban Integration Promotion among Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou, reported Strait Herald on Tuesday.

According to the general plan, the metropolitan area of “Xia-Zhang-Quan” will include the whole domain of the three cities, covering a total area of 26,000 square kilometers. Statistics have shown that there were a total of 16.66 million people living in the metropolitan area of “Xia-Zhang-Quan” in 2011.

The core area of the “Xia-Zhang-Quan” metropolitan area, which will include the entirety of Xiamen, the central zones of Zhangzhou and Quanzhou City, and parts of ZhangPu County, Changtai County, Nanjing County, Hua'an County, Quan’gang District, Huian County, Shishi County, Jinjiang County and Nanan County, will cover a total area of 7,772 square kilometers.

The core area of the “Xia-Zhang-Quan” metropolitan area will be 7 times the size of Hong Kong and considerably bigger than China’s largest city, Shanghai. Statistics have shown that some 12 million people were living in this area in 2011.

By 2015 the three cities are expected to preliminarily realize the goal of urban integration. Transportation, communication and other infrastructure networks in the three cities will be connected and integrated.
